Ground Water Treatment
Challenge
BESIX Watpac were awarded the contract to build the Barangaroo Station, located on the Sydney’s magnificent harbour, one of seven new metro stations being built on the Sydney Metro City and Southwest project.
Effective dewatering of the site was essential to allow for safe construction activities to continue and to prevent damage to the new infrastructure.
The site generated 150 m3 of iron rich groundwater daily that required treatment before being discharged into Sydney Harbour. During heavy rainfall events up to an additional 1,000 m3 of surface water would also require treatment
Our Solution
Due to the high-profile project and its location, the client required a reliable, experienced and collaborative partner to ensure compliant operation of the Ground Water Treatment Plant (GWTP).
As the GWTP OEM and working onsite with the previous contractor since 2018, Aquatic Engineering were able to provide a one stop solution for the client. AEA were engaged in a comprehensive supply and maintenance contract for the operation and maintenance of the GWTP, commencing work the day the client took possession of the site.
As construction continued, there was a need to relocate the GWTP on the site to facilitate the installation of underground solutions. A variation was issued to AEA, which included providing a temporary GWTP allowing the decommissioning, relocation, reinstallation and commissioning of the system, without compromising the client’s requirements.
AEA attended site 365 days per year, carrying out routine inspections, operation and preventative maintenance.
